Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)
1. How large is the GPS antenna, and how do I mount it on my car?
A: The antenna is very small, less than 2" x 2" in size. Simply attach it behind the GPS Mirror, to the inside of your windshield via the included Velcro pad. The antenna has an adhesive backing. Alternatively, if you have a vehicle with an Athermic windscreen (designed to block heat), you may find that you need an extension cable to mount your GPS anteena elsewhere. But first try it out as is. Most cars with Athermic windshields do not have the coating on the area behind the rear mirror, in order to allow for electronic toll passes, etc. If you do find that you need an extension cable, contact DMI via our "Contact Us" form and we'll arrange to get you one.
2. How do I update the GPS memory locations for accident warning zones and speed traps?
A: You just need a PC with Microsoft Windows (98SE and up), a USB port, a Serial RS-232 port, and an Internet connection. Sorry, but the system does not support Mac computers.
3. How is the GPS Mirror powered?
A: Your GPS Mirror kit will come with a power cord which plugs into your cig lighter / accessory power connector. It is possible to hard-wire your mirror to your vehicle's electrical system, however this requires also installing a 3 amp in-line fuse.
